Étienne-Gaspard Robert: Phantasmagoria showman, physics professor, balloonist, and steampunk by proxy.

An 18-19th century man who dabbled in galvanism, became famous for elaborate phantasmagoria, and designed hot-air balloons? Why have i never heard of him?

The first of many

I hope to, with this first post, show what the true feel of this blog will be, and what separates it from a site like Brass Goggles or Yours in a White Wine Sauce (both are brilliant sites far beyond my capabilities, no offence intended). Therefore, the post will not be predominantly steampunk, though most future posts will be.

And so i present to you, Abandoned. A beautifull site that catalogues abandoned structures, mostly in Russia. It tells a tale of false progress, of desperate technological dreams, of a dead future. It would be a waste to try to explain what makes this decay so awe inspiring, so explore the site for yourself.
